This September, as we celebrate Heritage Month, we’re thrilled to announce something truly special—a collaboration with another proudly South African brand, Honest Chocolate. Together, we’ve created a treat that pays homage to our shared heritage: the BOS Chai Flavoured Rooibos Chocolate. Trust us, this is one limited-edition delight you’ll want to add to your pantry this Heritage Month!
A fusion of vibrant designs and bold flavours
At BOS, we’re known for our vibrant and iconic packaging, and this project was no different. Our Senior Graphic Designer, Tyla, took the lead on creating the bold and bright wrapper for the chocolate slab. The illustration of the lion in the design isn’t just for show—it symbolises the courage and pride deeply rooted in our South African heritage. The colourful mane is symbolic of our Rainbow Nation, reminding us all of what makes South Africa so wonderfully unique.
Tyla shared some insight into the design process: “I really enjoyed exploring with illustration during this project and showcasing our South African energy through colour.” The blue wrapper is also a perfect match for our Chai Flavoured Rooibos tea, which inspired the flavour of the chocolate itself.
Speaking of flavour, The Honest Chocolate team made sure to pack tons of it into the slab. As Michael de Klerk, co-founder and Director at Honest Chocolate, explains, “After tasting the BOS tea range, BOS’s Chai Flavoured Rooibos tea was the most inspiring. We combined a mix of cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a sneaky touch of cayenne pepper. The base of the chocolate is our vegan 54% mylk chocolate made with oats, and we added BOS’s organic rooibos extract to complement the deep aromatic chai flavours. This gave us the elegant yet punchy profile we were looking to achieve while highlighting the premium ingredients.”
Giving back during Heritage Month
Heritage Month is all about celebrating who we are, but it’s also a time to give back. That’s why we’re excited to partner with The South African Red Cross Society, a local charity dedicated to fighting hunger. From September 24th to 29th, we’ll be hosting the Heritage Hope Food Drive at the Honest Chocolate Café. This initiative invites everyone to contribute by donating non-perishable food items. So, if you’re in Cape Town, drop by the Honest Chocolate Café and help us make a difference together!
