Understanding Rooibos

Before we get too technical, we have to strip it all back and take a moment to understand the essence of Rooibos. Rooibos is a herbal tea derived from the leaves of the Aspalathus linearis plant, Indigenous to the Cederberg Mountains in South Africa’s Western Cape, It’s naturally vibrant red in colour and offers a naturally sweet hug for your insides. You may be wondering: How much Rooibos Tea can I drink a day? The truth is that Rooibos can be enjoyed morning, noon and night but the maximum recommendation is 6 cups.

Health Benefits, You Say?

Yes! We’re super proud of the fact that BOS Rooibos is organic, packed with nutrients and naturally caffeine-free. It’s rich in vitamins and minerals that aid in detoxification which, in turn, increases energy levels. Looking to rehydrate? Rooibos has got that covered, too. On top of all of that, research shows that it could also reduce risk factors of type-2 diabetes, liver disease, inflammation, gastrointestinal problems and obesity. 6 Steps to the Perfect Brew

Here at BOS, we’re experts in all things Rooibos. Follow these simple steps and you’ll be sipping on the perfect cup of Rooibos tea in no time!

Step 1 – QUALITY CONTROL: Choosing a high-quality Rooibos tea is so important for the best outcome. Our 100% Organic Rooibos Tea hails from the rugged Cederberg Mountains & ancient rock pools of Klipopmekaar, our rooibos farm.

Step 2 – TOO HOT TO HANDLE: Rooibos tea is best brewed with water that’s just below boiling temperature, around 95°C, to avoid over-extraction and bitterness. Make sure your water is fresh and filtered.

Step 3 – THE STEEPING STEP: Carefully pour the hot water over your BOS Organic Rooibos Tea bag in your cup or teapot. Allow the tea to steep for 5 minutes, depending on your desired strength. Be mindful not to go over 7 minutes as this may cause a harsh taste.

Step 4 – FLAVOUR MAGIC (Optional): As we’ve mentioned, Rooibos tea is naturally sweet but this remarkable delight can be enhanced even further! Experimenting with flavours such as honey, lemon, cinnamon or ginger is guaranteed to give you that extra kick you might be craving. Our range of Flavoured Organic Rooibos Tea also comes in the following flavour combinations:

  • Strawberry & Vanilla
  • Chai
  • Orange & Ginger
  • Apple & Mint

If you’re looking for a refreshing cold brew on a scorching day, simply allow the brewed tea to cool down before pouring it over ice. You can then add a sweetener of your choosing. If you don’t feel like the trouble, buy our delicious ice tea here.

Step 6 –  TIME TO ENJOY: Once the tea has steeped to utter perfection (you’re welcome), remove your BOS Organic Rooibos Tea bag, sit back and relish in the rich flavour experience of your freshly brewed Rooibos tea. Absolutely world-class!

Keep it Fresh

To maintain freshness, store Rooibos tea in an airtight container away from direct sunlight and moisture or even better, use our beautifully designed tea tin – every kitchen needs one! This will help preserve its flavour and aroma for longer.
