It probably goes without saying that we’re 100% sold on rooibos benefits and the many ways this crazy good ingredient – which is the life and soul of all BOS products – adds value to our everyday lives. It’s not just about the health benefits (although those play a big part too); it’s about culture, creativity, festivity, feeling free, and all those other cool things that make life worth celebrating.
Here are 15 reasons why BOS is the ultimate ride or die…
1. BOS Rooibos Tea Doesn’t Give You the Jitters
Every tea lover will tell you, you can never have too many cups in a day. Until that one day you go fully overboard and end up with the kind of caffeine high that makes you want to lie down in a dark room until the shakes wear themselves out.
Rooibos is naturally caffeine free, which means all BOS teas – even our delicious flavoured hot teas (have you tried the chai one yet?) – are jitter free too. No matter how many late-night deadlines you have to get through.
PS. Rooibos benefits also include being low in tannins, completely organic, packed with a powerhouse of nutrients, and naturally sweet and fruity.

2. Even Jozi Traffic Jams Can Be Fun
You can find BOS wherever good, fun and creative things are happening, be it at festivals, art and cultural events, free sports happenings, and even in the midst of a good old Jozi traffic jam!

3. We’re Not Saying Benjamin Button, But…
A scientific study by researchers from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University found that “rooibos protects preadipocytes – the predominant cells found in fat tissue – from degenerating and therefore could reverse the onset of age-related diseases and even keep wrinkles at bay.”
One of the study researchers, Dr Trevor Koekemoer, said: “The discovery opens doors to ways in which rooibos could prevent or at least delay the detrimental effects of ageing and holds profound implications for the industry. Our findings could spur novel therapeutic approaches for improving general health in the aged and potentially lead to a breakthrough in the field of regenerative medicines.”
4. You Can Tell Your Friends You’re Drinking An Ancient Health Remedy
Known to South Africa’s indigenous Khoi and San peoples for many centuries, nutrient- and antioxidant-rich rooibos tea has been used as a traditional health remedy for hundreds of years. In recent times, the myriad health benefits of this organic herbal drink have been backed by scientific research.
DID YOU KNOW? Proudly South African rooibos is such a superior beverage (although it is not technically a “true” tea) that it even has its own national day in South Africa
5. Gives Your Cocktails the X-Factor
BOS rooibos tea pairs well with just about anything. It a great companion to fresh fruit and salty dishes, in particular. It’s also a delectable ingredient in desserts, smoothies and slushies. But perhaps the best news is that BOS ice teas make marvellous cocktail mixers.

6. Combats Zoom Fatigue
Those endless online meetings really don’t help the brain fog, do they. BOS rooibos tea swoops in again. Both red and green rooibos tea offer health benefits that not only boost the body, but also soothe and sharpen the mind.
For example, rooibos tea is rich in minerals and vitamins that aid detoxification, which can increase energy levels. This wonder beverage also has neuroprotective properties, which can help to boost brain function.
BONUS ROOIBOS BENEFITS: Rooibos has also been proven to lower levels of cortisol, our bodies’ stress hormone, which can aid relaxation.
7. Helps Make Your Jeans Look Good
When we recently met inspirational Zimbabwe-born artist Blessing Phiri, we were so struck by his talent and his jean art that we asked him to be one of our “Makers”. Blessing has been honing his skills with the support of Intle Art, and now puts his talent to use brightening up denim jeans and jackets with his colourful art designs.
In March 2022, BOS sponsored five followers to have their jeans painted by Blessing and help bring exposure to this art and business. Check out the pair of jeans Blessing painted for Brent Lindeque, the Good Things Guy, here.
8. You’re an Eco-Warrior By Association
At BOS, we are always on the lookout for worthy causes to support, and what could be more important than doing our bit to help save our planet? BOS has been supporting environmental organisation Greenpop in its reforestation work since 2010. To date, Greenpop has planted over 30 000 trees. Our aim is to help Greenpop in reaching their goal of planting 50 000 trees by 2025.

9. Summers Will Always Be Ace
Is there any better place to crack open an ice-cold can of BOS Ice tea than by the seaside on a hot summer’s day? Before or after a surf session, pre- or post-swim … BOS Ice Tea or BOS Fruity Ice and the beach are a match made in (rooibos) heaven.
10. Adds to That Proudly South African Feeling
As a type of fynbos that naturally occurs in the Cape Floral Region, superfood rooibos is derived from Aspalathus linearis, a leguminous shrub indigenous to South Africa’s Western Cape province. That’s right, the plant that produces rooibos tea occurs only in South Africa’s rugged mountainous Cederberg region, and nowhere else on Earth.
Located near the town of Clanwilliam, about 300 km north of Cape Town, the dramatic Cederberg mountain range was named after the Clanwilliam cedar, an endangered tree endemic to the area. Rooibos tea is by far the Cederberg’s most well-known export, with the region also home to the highest winery in South Africa!
11. BOS Rooibos Benefits Communities
At Klipopmekaar farm in the Cederberg (that’s where we farm our 100% organic BOS rooibos tea), we are committed to using only sustainable farming practices, as well as uplifting our community wherever we can.
We care deeply about not just our land, but our environment as a whole. That’s why we use only recyclable materials for our BOS product packaging and hot tea bags, and partner with inspiring organisations such as Greenpop to support their sustainability efforts.
What’s more, BOS Hot Rooibos Tea was recently granted the Rainforest Alliance seal, something that gives consumers the opportunity to identify and select products that contribute to a better future for our planet and its people.

13. Gives the Finger to Hangovers
We all know the sensible thing to do after a big night out is hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, right? But sometimes H2O alone is just not enough.
If you want to know the science… Alcohol inhibits the creation of vasopressin, an antidiuretic hormone that causes the kidneys to send water to all parts of the body. The more alcohol you drink, the more water is expelled by your body, leaving you dehydrated and feeling less than stellar.
The BOS solution? Rooibos is sugar free, caffeine free, and packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, making it an excellent hydrating drink. It will help restore your body’s equilibrium and see you well-hydrated to bounce back after those epic nights out.
EVEN REUBEN RIFFEL SAYS SO: Superstar chef Reuben Riffel adds rooibos to his hangover cure: 1 cup of chilled rooibos tea, ½ cup ginger ale, 1 oz lemongrass syrup, and top up with soda water and a dash of angostura bitters.
14. Rooibos Benefits Babies and Kids, Too
Rooibos is safe to be enjoyed by humans of all ages – including babies aged around 17 weeks and older (in moderate amounts and unsweetened, of course).
That’s right, from around the time solids are introduced into a baby’s diet (starting from around four months of age), they can start tapping into the awesome goodness of natural, organic, caffeine-free rooibos tea.
As a bonus, you can also use rooibos tea to help soothe baby’s skin irritations!
